Longtime local architect dies at 66

Dan Helwig. Helwig died Aug. 27 while working at his lake home in Mikana, northeast of Rice Lake. He was designing and building a treehouse for his grandsons.Helwig was born in Webster, South Dakota. His family later moved to Neillsville, where they farmed. He was a 1969 graduate of Neillsville High School and graduated from the UW-Milwaukee School of Architecture in 1973.Helwig spent the first 10 years of his career with Boson Construction in Marshfield and then started his own firm: Design Unlimited in 1984.Helwig’s design work is in many of Marshfield’s most notable structures, including Jack Hackman Field, PreventionGenetics, Prairie Run Dental, Robert Kay Orthodontics, the Dental Clinic of Marshfield, Time Federal Savings Bank, Forward Financial Bank’s current offices, First Presbyterian and Christ Lutheran churches, and the Wildwood Station Pavilion as well as other structures at Wildwood Park & Zoo.He is survived by his wife Sharon Lueck Helwig, their three sons and six grandchildren, four brothers, and three sisters.A memorial service for Dan Helwig will be held at 4 p.m. on Sept. 2 at Christ Lutheran Church, where the family will receive relatives and friends from 3 p.m. until service time. The Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Children’s Miracle Network or Marshfield Area United Way for the Nutrition On Weekends or Keep Kids Warm programs.

Fisher, age 75, of Bart, PA, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2017, at the Beebe Hospital, Lewes, DE. He was the husband of Carol I. Swisher Fisher with whom he would have celebrated 54 years of marriage on October 5th. He was born in Lancaster, son of the late Percy & Frances Lefever Fisher and the stepson of the late Myrtle Killian Fisher. He drove truck for Esbenshade Turkey Farm of Paradise and High Steel of Lancaster for 38 years retiring in 2003. In his retirement he provided transportation to the amish community. He enjoyed par-3 golf, riding his Harley Davidson, sitting on his porch watching the buggies go by, spending time at his beach house at Broadkill Beach. Most of all he loved Sunday family fun day and spending time with his family.Surviving besides his wife are 3 children: Scott husband of Darlene Weidman Fisher of Paradise, Todd Fisher at home, Vickie wife of Ken Kirchoff of Willow Street, 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 4 siblings: Betty Mae wife of Clair Kreider of Quarryville, Jack husband of Ann Lefever Fisher of Paradise, Doris Burke companion of Fred Hackman of Willow Street, David Fisher of Paradise. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Robert Fisher, husband of Barbara Phillips Fisher of Paradise.Funeral service will take place from the Shivery Funeral Home, 111 Elizabeth Street, Christiana, PA on Wednesday, September 6th at 11 a.m. Interment will be in the Georgetown Methodist Cemetery. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service.
